Redmen 1 - UQTR (@ Samuel Moskovitch Arena in Cote St. Luc) 2
Non-conference Game
Game Report by Earl Zukerman
MONTREAL Eric Beaudin and Thiery Poudrier scored power play goals less
than two minutes apart, late in the second period as UQTR edged McGill 2-1 in
mens pre-season hockey at the Sam Moscovitch Arena in Cote St. Luc, Que.,
Wednesday.
It was the first meeting between these bitter arch-rivals since McGill swept
the Pats to capture the OUA East championship last spring. The game featured
a combined 29 penalties for 66 minutes (including 42 minutes to UQTR) but the
Redmen were unable to take advantage of their power play opportunities. They
scored on just one of 14 man-advantage situations, while the Pats went 2-for-10
on the PP.
Patriotes fifth-year netminder Dany Dallaire made 36 saves for the win as McGill
outshot UQTR 37-35, including an 18-8 margin in the third period. Mathieu Poitras,
McGills All-Canadian goaltender, was credited with 33 saves in a losing
cause as his record evened at 1-1-0.
McGill opened the scoring on freshman Vincent Lamberts first career CIS
goal, a power play effort at 19:09 of the first period but UQTR rallied in the
second, when they held a 19-7 margin in shots.
McGill (1-1-0) heads to Toronto this weekend for a pair of games at the York
Invitational tournament. They will open against traditional powerhouse Western
on Sept. 30 at 4:30 pm. The Redmen have tied Western for most points atop the
OUA standings in each of the last two years.
