OTTAWA Ben McLeod of Edmonton, scored twice and added an assist as Ottawa
upset No.9-ranked McGill 6-2 in mens university hockey, Tuesday.
It was the Gee-Gees third victory in four meetings with the Redmen this season
and dashed McGills hopes for a third straight OUA East regular-season
title. With two games remaining, the second-place Redmen trail division-leading
UQTR by five points.
It marked only the third time that McGill has dropped a series out of the last
25 played during the last three years. Over that span, the Redmen are 18-3-4
in series won-lost-tied.
Ottawa connected on 4-of-10 powerplay chances as McGill was called for 32 of
the 48 penalty minutes issued.
Eric LItalien, a Ste. Foy native who has six goals in his last three
games, tallied both McGill markers on the power play.
Ottawa, which led 3-0 after the opening period and 3-2 after two, also got
goals from Pierre-Andre LeBlanc of Dieppe, N.B., Jean-Claude Milot of Longueuil,
Que., Keven Gagne of Baie Comeau, Que., and Quebec City native Kevin Glode.
Goaltender Jordan Watt made 31 saves to even his record at 5-5-0 while Mathieu
Poitras was credited with 26 saves in a losing cause and fell to 9-6-2.
McGill (15-8-3) will play at Concordia in the 20th annual Ronald Corey Cup
game Friday, before hosting first-place UQTR in the season finale Sunday night.

in the nations capital... The Redmen will be holding a hockey equipment
sale at the McConnell Arena lobby (3883 University Street) on Wednesday, Feb.
7 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The sale will feature almost new equipment, including
vintage game-worn jerseys, skates, gloves and sticks. Helmets, shin pads and
elbow pads will be available for as low as $10. Shoulder pads and hockey pants
start at $15. Prices will vary depending on age and quality. Proceeds will be
go towards the teams fundraising fund.
