KINGSTON Shawn Shewchuk of Lloydminster, Alta., scored a goal and added
three assists as visiting McGill routed Queens 6-2 before 622 fans at
the Kingston Memorial Centre, Saturday.
It was the fifth straight win for the Redmen after a slow start and their eighth
straight victory over Queens. It also marked McGills 24th win in
the last 26 confrontations of a long-standing rivalry that dates back to 1895.
McGill has dominated the series with a 101-50-2 record.
Sam Bloom, a third-year winger from Toronto added a pair of goals and one assist.
Other marksmen for the Redmen included sophomore Vincent Lambert, plus defencemen
Yan Turcotte and Ben Gazdic.
The Redmen went 4-for-8 on the power play en route to outshooting Queens
50-25, including a 21-12 margin in the second period. In their last three contests,
the McGill PP unit has connected on 9 of 28 chances.
McGill improved to 6-3-1 and sit third in the OUA Far East with 13 points,
one behind Concordia (7-4-0) with a game in hand. Queens, which shares
first place with RMC in the Mid-East Division, dropped to 6-5-2.
The Redmen will host Ottawa (6-5-0) on Nov. 20 in a game that was rescheduled
from Oct. 20.
