MIERCUREA CIUC, Romania Marko Kovacevic, a member of the McGill Redmen,
scored twice and was named player-of-the-game as Serbia battered Bulgario 11-2
at the IIHF Division IIA world hockey championships in Miercurea Ciuc, Romania
on Sunday.
The Serbs finished third in the six-team tournament with a 3-2 record, including
a post-overtime shootout loss.
Kovacevic, a 22-year-old management junior from Belgrade, led the Serbs in
scoring with seven goals and 11 points in five games. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder,
normally a left winger with the Redmen, played on defence for Serbia, which
was coached by Adam Shell, a former McGill player and assistant coach.
Kovacevic tallied seven of his points in Sebria's opening contest, a 13-1 blowout
over Ireland on April 7. Their other results included a 10-0 setback to Romania
(April 8), a 4-1 win over the Jean Perron-coached Israeli team (April 3) and
a 5-4 shootout loss to Belgium (April 4).

McGill player scores 7 pts at IIHF world championships
MIERCUREA CIUC, ROMANIA Marko Kovacevic, a 22-year-old forward with the
McGill Redmen, scored four goals and added three assists for Serbia in a 13-1
rout over Ireland at the IIHF Division II world hockey championships in Miercurea
Ciuc, Romania on Monday.
The Serbs, coached by Adam Shell, a former McGill player and assistant coach,
led 2-1 after one period and 5-1 after two.
Kovacevic (pronounced (koh-VATCHA-vitz), a 6-foot-2, 215-pound left winger who
was listed on the IIHF scoresheet as one of six defenceman, scored what proved
to be the game-winner on a power play at 17:31 of the opening period, made it
4-1 at 12:46 of the middle frame, then tallied Serbias sixth and ninth
markers in the final stanza.
The third-year management major is a native of Belgrade and has a 28-29-57 record
in 113 contests overall with the Redmen.
Serbia (1-0) is slated to play Romania on Tuesday, followed by games against
Israel (Thursday), Belgium (Friday) and Bulgaria (Sunday).

Redmen off to World Hockey Championships
MONTREAL Marko Kovacevic, a forward with the McGill Redmen, has been
selected to represent Serbia at the IIHF Division II world hockey championships
in Miercurea Ciuc, Romania, April 7-13.
The Serbian national team will be under the direction of head coach Adam Shell,
a former McGill defenceman who graduated with a B.Com. in 2003 and served two
seasons as an assistant coach with the Redmen before taking over the coaching
duties at Royal Military College in Kingston last fall.
Kovacevic, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound left winger, scored five goals and 13 points
in 42 games for McGill this season. The 22-year-old management junior is a native
of Belgrade who has a 28-29-57 record in 113 contests overall with the Redmen.
He enrolled at McGill in 2005 out of St. Andrews College in Aurora, Ont., Kovacevic
also played briefly with the Ontario Hockey Leagues Sudbury Wolves in
2002-03.
Teams competing against Serbia in the tournament will be Belgium, Bulgaria,
Ireland, Iceland and Romania.
